A school trip abroad can be a defining moment that creates a life-long love of the English language and exploration of UK culture. When Britain’s professional guides welcome school groups they play an essential role in what is often a first international cultural experience.
With passport-free travel coming to an end on 1st October 2021, the professional guiding organisations jointly urge the Government to take all measures necessary to ensure that pupils can continue to easily visit the UK on study trips. A versatile approach to the implementation of the new UK border rules, especially flexibility which favours schoolchildren, whose education has already been affected during the pandemic, would benefit the children themselves, support the recovery of the UK guiding sector, as well as having wider benefits for the UK economy.
It is more important than ever that professional guides share British history, openness and traditions with the next generation of young Europeans.
