Copyright for Guides

Many Institute-accredited guides have explored the art of virtual guiding over recent months, even gaining news coverage in some cases. Copyrighted material must remain a consideration in producing these tours, and we have put together guidance to help members avoid problems.

Institute members Rowan Freeland (member of the Board of Directors) and Aaron Hunter have put together the guidance document below to help you avoid some of the common copyright problems in gathering and curating chosen materials.

The Institute, Guild and APTG are commending this to our members, and gently reminding them that they should pay particular heed to tours of museums and sites, who often allow us free entry and some where we have guiding privileges.  They too are facing financial hardship and we wish to maintain good relationships with them.
