Diversity policy
Diversity policy statement
The Institute of Tourist Guiding supports the development of a successful community of professionally-qualified tourist guides in which individuals bring their different backgrounds, areas of knowledge, experience and interest for the benefit of the tourist guiding community and our clients.
We welcome people of any race (including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin), age, religion or belief, sex, gender, sexual orientation or gender identity, socioeconomic status, level of education, or language, as well as those with a disability.
We believe it is important to increase the diversity of our guide communities because:
- We are keen to reflect the diversity of the areas in which we guide
- Our visitors will gain a much fuller appreciation for the multicultural nature of our society
- Offering a wider diversity of guides is likely to appeal to a broader range of clients
- Focussing on different aspects of diversity will enable us to offer a wider range of themes in our work
- Visitors from diverse backgrounds will feel a closer connection to the stories we tell
- Encouraging candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply for guide training courses will increase the numbers of qualified guides available to serve our clients
- A greater focus on diversity will go even further to ensure a fair, respectful and inclusive working environment, free from discrimination of any kind.
